REGISTRATION FOR LIVING & ACTIVE is NOW OPEN!!
GET YOUR TICKETS HERE!!

Hebrews 4:12

Scripture says:

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

what does it mean to be
living & active?

Living: having life, being alive, in actual existence, thriving, vigorous, strong

Active: engaged in action, involved, physically energetic, busy, participating

Paideia Northwest has set aside November 9th to encourage and exhort you to pursue and apply these principles in your motherhood, your homemaking, your homeschooling, your walk with God, your love of His Word!

Themes & Topics

Psalm 119:97-99
Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.

be in the word

If we believe that the Word of God is living, active, and sharp, how should we then live? How do we keep Scripture as our daily meat? How do we meditate on His law? How does God’s commandments make us wiser than our enemies? What does it look like to teach, rebuke, correct, and train in righteousness with the Word of God as our guide? In motherhood, what ways ought we to really focus on being doers of the Word, rather than hearers only?

pursue adventure

Throughout Scripture we see God’s people being taken on adventures to all kinds of places and for all sorts of purposes. What does adventure have to do with godly motherhood? How do we teach our children to follow where God leads with strength and courage? How do we use adventure and misadventure to connect with our children and encourage them to grow in godly virtue? How does adventure help us grow in curiosity, faith, praise, and peace?

Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Romans 1:20
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

love his creation

How do we discover the truth of God’s love through the wonder of His creation? How can we, as companions and nurturers and educators in our homes, lead our children to see the Creator by studying and admiring His creation?
Psalm 96:11-12
Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.
Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord.

strengthen your body

What does Scripture say about strengthening the physical body? We ought not be gnostics, and we are called to care for the physical temple where the Holy Spirit indwells His people. What does this look like for godly women? How do we gird ourselves with strength and strengthen our arms? In the busy days of motherhood, how do we find this as a biblical priority?

Proverbs 31:17
She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.

My husband is Matt and we have been married for 19 years. We met at a rock concert, through mutual friends. We became friends and when I was in college he invited me to church. My conversion and baptism at age 19 changed my life completely. It is still baffling to my family.

I never thought I would homeschool our kids, I was fine, and my husband was a bit weird. Yet, I married that awkward unsocialized homeschooler, who wore socks with sandals, and dorky glasses (imagine Where’s Waldo). He’s not allowed to do that anymore, as per our prenuptial agreement. As September loomed, I looked at my 5 year old boy and thought, ‘We can do kindergarten at home.’

We are still homeschooling, I have graduated one young adult, and another has chosen to attend a local Christian School. It is different than I imagined, and we will not read every book I had hoped to share with my kids.  The years are going quickly and I am so thankful I get to spend the majority of my days with my favorite people. My kids are learning true, good, and beautiful things. They are experiencing a wide and generous curriculum. Homeschooling allows us to take a month to work lambing, helping thousands of sheep birth their lambs each spring. My kids are sixth generation sheep herders and have their own flocks. We work hard in the barns and ranching, which transfers to working hard in our studies. Four out of five of my children are left handed and also dyslexic, it has always been hard work learning to read, spell, and write. We’ve all learned that we can do hard things and persevere.

I love to read and discuss books. Sometimes I moonlight as a strategic planning consultant, but mostly I herd children during the week and sheep on the weekends. When time allows I like to paint with watercolors, I love to exercise, lift heavy weights, and participate in #fitbit challenges. I really love the Scholé Sisters community; the Sistership is the place that thousands of women, just like me, are reading, discussing, and learning for themselves and their posterity.

BONUS event

This year, our special, free event for family & friends of conference registrants will be an adults-only seminar on the terrible and necessary conversation of raising our kids in the digital age where pornography is everywhere you look. Greta Eskridge loves to remind parents to connect with their kids on this difficult topic, and will be giving us a 2-part seminar to help equip us to raise our kids with a healthy, godly view of sexuality as well as how to combat the prevalence of pornography in our culture. We invite you to bring other parents with you for this complimentary event; this topic may or may not be new to you, but there is nothing new under the sun, and it is our prayer that God would bless the offering of this seminar for the good of our families and the purity of His people.
Find the details HERE to join us on Friday, Nov 8th 6:30pm!

Living & Active is committed to hosting this annual conference somewhere along the I-90 corridor between Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. This year, we are grateful to The Oaks for showing us the hospitality of sharing their beautiful new building with us!
11711 E 24th Ave, Spokane Valley, WA 99206

We have a hotel block at Holiday Inn Express at 9220 Mission Ave in Spokane Valley for your use if you plan to stay overnight before or after the conference. Please CLICK HERE for our special rate, which will be available only through October 10th.
If you prefer to do your own legwork, there are lots of other options (hotels and AirBnbs) in Spokane or Liberty Lake, WA and Post Falls or Coeur d’Alene, ID. Comfort Inn & Suites and Ramada by Wyndham are both nearby and economic choices, especially if you bunk with friends.

this year’s extra swag

Living & Active swag will be available to order at the time of registration, for pickup at the conference on November 9th. (If something unforeseen comes up to keep you from attending the event in person, I will be happy to mail it to you after the conference. Just send me an email!)

We hope to have a shirt and a mug available with this year’s graphic incorporated into the design (black on green). We will have extra shirts and mugs available for purchase at the conference (as well as for give aways!), but sizes and quantities are always a surprise. 🙂 When you purchase a shirt or a mug, the funds go directly toward conference needs to offset the fact that I try to keep registration costs low – and for 2024, these funds allow me to sponsor free tickets to mamas in need. Thank you for helping to support Paideia Northwest so we can continue bringing an annual conference to our region to encourage so many mamas raising their kids for Jesus Christ!

Psalm 119:103-105
How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
